“Clay remembers. I shape with memory, spirit, and future—crafting ceramics that honor tradition while creating what has never existed before.” - MFZ 2025
About MFZ Ceramics
MFZ Ceramics is the work of Mila Fields-Zayas, a ceramic artist born in Harlem and raised in Brooklyn and New Orleans. Guided by ancestral wisdom from Barbados, Borikén, and Chía, Colombia, Mila works with clay as a vessel of memory—holding touch, history, and intention. Each piece honors land as both material and witness, merging Black and Indigenous traditions with Black-futurist imagination. Rooted in Sankofa, her practice reclaims what has been left behind to shape a liberated future. Beyond the studio, Mila creates community-centered spaces where Black and Indigenous people—especially youth—can see themselves reflected in ceramics, reclaim their creative voices, and find healing through collective care.
